Interesting Question

Mark Horne:
"# A man and his family leave their home country to find economic freedom and prosperity through their own labor, but in so doing break the laws and sneak past the border patrols of the country they are leaving.

# A man and his family leave their home country to find economic freedom and prosperity through their own labor, but in so doing break the laws and sneak past the border patrols of the country they are entering.

Why are we told that those in the first scenario are freedom loving heroes while the others are despicable lawbreakers?"
He goes on to suggest that the 'problem' is the welfare state that causes the real difficulties most people have with immigration (from a money standpoint, anyway). From a cultural standpoint, consider the possibility that people who want to come here to work would probably bring their families and thusly be searching for a new life, not a more wealthy form of the old one. Also consider the effects of quick transportation, allowing immigrants to straddle the fence, if you will. Just thoughts...but there's probably a good principle in there somewhere.
